Cape Vahsel is a cape that forms the eastern tip of South Georgia .
The British navigator and explorer James Cook carried out a rough mapping during his second South Sea voyage (1772–1775). This was refined by participants in the Second German Antarctic Expedition (1911–1912) under the direction of Wilhelm Filchner . Filchner named the cape after Richard Vahsel (1868–1912), the captain of the expedition ship Germany , who died during the research trip.
