Ty Carter

Ty Michael Carter (born January 25, 1980 in Spokane , Washington ) is an American war veteran . At a ceremony in the White House, he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his contribution to defending the Keating Outpost during the war in Afghanistan .

Ty Carter was born in Washington State in 1980. Following high school, Ty Carter joined the United States Marine Corps . He served on the US base in Okinawa . Ty Carter retired from the Marine Corps in 2002 after serving 4 years. He began studying biology at Los Medanos College in California. At college he met his future wife. The couple had a daughter, but the marriage later divorced. In 2008 Ty joined the US Army and received basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky. Carter served twice in Afghanistan. As part of his first mission in Afghanistan from May 2009 to May 2010, the events that led to the award of the Medal of Honor occurred. Its second deployment took place in 2012.

Ty Carter has post-traumatic stress disorder and retired from the US Army in 2014 with the rank of staff sergeant .
