Markus Becker (born April 8, 1966 in Hattingen ) is a former German handball player . The goalkeeper played for TSV Bayer Dormagen and SG Wallau / Massenheim in the Bundesliga , with which he was two German champions .

Career

Becker began playing handball at TuS Hattingen when he was ten , after initially playing football for a short time . In the B-youth he switched to OSC Dortmund and celebrated with the club in 1985 winning the German A-youth championship. After he did not receive any game shares in the Bundesliga team of the OSC, he joined the regional league team SuS Oberaden in January 1986 , with whom he made promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season . After a year in the new league, Becker moved to league rivals TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen for two years and in 1989 to TSV Bayer Dormagen in the Bundesliga. After this two-year commitment, the SG Wallau / Massenheim signed him , where within three years he was twice German champion and DHB cup winner and won the IHF cup once . From 1996 to 2000 he played for the second division club TuS Eintracht Wiesbaden and later for TuS Niederpleis and TV 1844 Idstein .

Becker was initially a youth national player, also played games for the B national team and was world champion in 1986 with the military national team. For the German national team he made his debut on May 30, 1987 against Yugoslavia at the Japan Cup. He played all of his four international caps within a week. Another at the Japan Cup in Tokyo and two at the subsequent three-country tournament in Osaka .
