Tylecodon faucium is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of the thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).

description

Tylecodon faucium grows dwarf and not very branched, has an indistinct tuber and develops shallow-rooted shoots. The short and spreading shoots are up to 7 inches long and 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. They have a gray-green bark and are covered with short, up to 2 millimeters long phyllopodia. The crowded and differently shaped leaves are mostly inverted lanceolate, inverted egg-shaped to spatulate and are 1.5 to 3 centimeters long and 0.5 to 1.2 centimeters wide. They are covered with glandular hairs and grooved or flat on the top. The pinkish-red leaf blade is sometimes almost rounded.

The inflorescence is formed from 15 to 30 centimeters high spread thyrsen . These have 1 to 2 monochasia with upright flowers. The funnel-shaped and yellowish green colored corolla tube is 12 to 20 millimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. The pink to chestnut brown tips are spread out or bent back and are 6 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide.

Systematics and distribution

Tylecodon faucium is widespread in South Africa in the Western Cape Province in the Succulent Karoo . It was first described in 1941 by Karl von Poellnitz as a cotyledon faucium . Helmut Richard Tölken placed the species in the genus Tylecodon in 1978 .
