The Type 75 ( Japanese 75 式 自 走 155mm り ゅ う 弾 砲 , 75-shiki jisō 155mm ryūdanhō , German "Type 75 self-propelled 155 mm artillery") is a self-propelled howitzer of the Japanese ground self-defense forces . The Type-75 howitzer has been simultaneously with the Type-74 - Tank developed and partly uses the same components. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries developed the hull, while Japan Steel Works was responsible for the weapon and turret. In 1971/72 two prototypes with different charging systems were completed. Test drives were carried out in 1973/74, and the weapon system was put into service in October 1975. At the same time, the Type 74 was introduced, the main weapon of which was 105 mm in caliber. The howitzer has a range of 19 km with standard ammunition, and 24 km with rocket-propelled grenades.

In 2001 201 units were still in service, over time these will be replaced by the more modern Type 99 howitzer.
