Lists on the subject

The Type 81 is an assault rifle with a caliber of 7.62 × 39 mm developed in the People's Republic of China in the early 1980s . It is a further development of the Chinese Type 63/68 rifles .

It laid the foundation for a whole family of descendants, including paratrooper versions with a folding stock (Type 81-1) and variants with a heavy barrel, 75-round drum and bipod as a light machine gun.

Even if it looks very similar to the Kalashnikov series, the Type 81 rifle differs from the Soviet models: the shooting cup for rifle grenades is striking , and the Type 81 uses a dagger bayonet for the first time, which also doubles as a combat knife can be used. Technically it is a gas pressure charger with a rotating head lock, which corresponds to that of the Kalashnikov system. The gas piston with short stroke and gas regulating device was adopted from Type 63. The grain carrier is located immediately in front of the gas withdrawal.

variants

For the tests with the 5.8 × 42-millimeter cartridge , the Type 87 was produced, which is identical except for the other caliber and the additional bolt catch .

commitment

The weapons were used in combat , among other things, in the border battles between China and Vietnam .
