The cargo ships of the type MBC (Multi-Bulk-Container) from Mathias-Thesen-Werft are ice-going combined bulk, general cargo and container carriers.

history

The series was manufactured in six units from 1980 to 1982. The ships developed further from the OBC type are used for the transport of bulk goods and ores, for tramp shipping with bulk and general cargo, as well as containers and rolled pieces / bulk cargo. Hence the abbreviation M ulti (MPT), B ulk (bulk), C ontainer. The ships of the series were all exported to the Federal Republic.

technology

In the course of the further development of the OBC, the loading space dimensions for container transport were optimized and intermediate decks were provided for loading spaces 2 to 4 in order to improve the loading flexibility. The ships are powered by a 8240 kW two-stroke diesel engine of the type K8Z 70 / 120E manufactured under MAN license from the manufacturer VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock , which acts directly on a controllable pitch propeller and has a bow thruster .

The ice-reinforced hulls of the double-hulled ships are assembled in sectional construction. The deckhouse is air-conditioned.

The five cargo holds with a volume of 24,000 m³ grain space and 23,600 m³ ball space have a deck opening degree of 76.5% and are closed sea-tight with hydraulic folding hatch covers. If required, 863 TEU containers can be transported, with 150 connections for refrigerated containers available. The ships are equipped with three double ship cranes with a capacity of 25/50 tons.
