Terra typica
The terra typica (short terr. Typ. , Lat . 'Typical land'), also type location or locus classicus , is the area from which the type of a species originates. The type is a selected individual who forms the basis of an initial scientific description in biology . The terra typica does not have to correspond to the region in which the species is particularly common; it can also be an atypical area or a peripheral area of the distribution area .
The location of the type copy , the specimen copy of the type, can be indicated by location descriptions, grid mapping and geographical coordinates .
In contrast, the storage location of the type refers to the collection in which the specimen copy is kept for research purposes.
