The Tabriz metro ( Persian : قطار شهری تبریز و حومه) is the metro and elevated railway of the city of Tabriz in Iran . The first seven-kilometer section was opened on August 28, 2015.

The Tabriz metro is owned by the city of Tabriz and is operated by the Tabriz Urban Railway Organization (TURO) (Municipal Railway Company for Tabriz).

planning

A metro network of four linked lines is planned . The lines will be built in standard gauge with energy supply through overhead lines . Only part of it runs in tunnels. Some of the routes are run as an elevated railway.

  • Line 1 is partly in operation and partly under construction. It will run over 17.2 km from El Goli to Nur and have 18 stations. The second section is scheduled to open in summer 2016.
  • Line 2 is under construction.
  • Line 3 is being planned. It should be 14.7 km long and have 14 stations. It is a north-south connection that serves , among other things, Tabriz Airport , the bazaar and the Yadgar-e-Emam Stadium.
  • Line 4 is being planned. You should bypass the old town.

Currently (2015) a portion is only the line 1 of 7 kilometers in length between the stations El Goli and Ostad Shahryar in operation. There are four stations in between, three of them in the tunnel. The metro trains made up of electric multiple units with longitudinal benches usually run as two coupled five-car units with an interval of 20 minutes. In order to attract passengers, the train could be used free of charge in the first three months of operation between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
