José Alberty Correia (born February 4, 1917 in Abrantes , Portugal , † June 9, 2011 ) was a Portuguese officer and colonial administrator.

Act

In 1963 Correia took over the post of governor of Portuguese Timor from Francisco António Pires Barata , who had deputized the post of governor appointed by the government ( Portuguese encarregado do governo ) since February 3 of the same year.

Under Lieutenant Colonel (later Colonel) Correia, a 24-hour power supply was set up and the city was further modernized. Various structures were erected: the telecommunications center, the technical school, the post office, the Associação Comercial Industrial e Agrícola de Timor (ACAIT) and the Comarca prison . The seaport was modernized and expanded. With new warehouses it was now possible to serve ships up to a size of 7,000 tons, such as the India and the Timor of the Companhia Colonial de Navegação . In 1968 Correia was succeeded as governor by José Nogueira Valente Pires .

From January 18, 1972 to 1973 Correia was Secretary of State of the Army ( Portuguese Secretário de Estado do Exército ) and received various tasks in Mozambique , Macau , Timor and Angola .

Awards

Correia received the knightly order of Avis on November 10, 1950, on November 2, 1961 he was honored with the higher class of the commander of the same order. On August 19, 1968 Correia received the Ordem do Império .
