Francisco António Pires Barata

Francisco António Pires Barata was a Portuguese officer and colonial administrator.

Act

In 1942 Barata was stationed as a captain on the Azores island of São Miguel .

At the end of September 1953, Lieutenant Colonel Barata arrived in the Portuguese colony of São Tomé and Príncipe as the new governor. He held the office until August 15, 1954. The promotion to colonel followed shortly thereafter.

In 1957 Barata was temporarily in command of the Regimento de Engenharia nº1 .

On February 3, 1963, Barata, now with the rank of brigadier general, took over the official duties of Major Filipe José Freire Temudo Barata , the outgoing governor of Portuguese Timor , as governor appointed by the government ( Portuguese encarregado do governo ) . That same year, José Alberty Correia , the actual new incumbent, arrived in Dili and took up his post.

In 1967 Brigadier General Barata finally took command of the Madeira Military Zone . He stayed that way until 1968.

Awards

Barata received the Order of Avis on June 9, 1940 . On June 9, 1945, he was honored with the higher class of officer of the same order. The commander class followed on October 20, 1951, and finally the grand officer class on March 17, 1960.
