US Robotics is an IT / telecommunications company founded in the United States in 1976 . The company's headquarters are in Schaumburg , Illinois .

US Robotics pioneered the design and manufacture of modems .

Today the company continues to be a provider of network products. In addition to modems, products are manufactured for DSL / broadband , WLAN and for networking private users and small businesses.

US Robotics at Isaac Asimov

In Isaac Asimov's stories, a company called "US Robotics and Mechanical Men, Inc." is mentioned. This fictional company was founded in Asimov's Robot Stories in 1982 under the name "US Robot Company". "US Robotics and Mechanical Men" represents the leading manufacturer of robots in the stories. The fictional company also plays a role in the film I, Robot with Will Smith, which is based on an Asimov story .

The real company was named after Asimov's company.
