The UEFA Champions League live is the broadcast of the UEFA Champions League on the second German television .

history

ZDF had already applied for the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League in 2008, but at that time these went to Sat.1 . ZDF has been taking over these rights since the 2012/13 season and secured them for three years. The rights costs are estimated at 54 million euros annually. At the end of December 2013 it was announced that ZDF had secured the rights for a further three years. The UEFA Champions League will therefore be broadcast on ZDF until summer 2018.

concept

In the 20-minute preliminary report, reports prepared by the ZDF sports department are shown on both teams. Thereupon the expert Oliver Kahn gives his assessment of the performance of the two teams. Interviews with players and coaches recorded in advance are also usually shown to provide the viewer with background information for the game. During the half-time break, which is largely filled with a short edition of the heute-journal , the most important scenes from the first half are shown and analyzed by Oliver Kahn. The same will be done after the game, with the main focus being on live interviews to capture the direct reactions of the players and coaches. In addition, summaries of the other Champions League games of the evening are shown.

Charisma

ZDF always broadcasts the Champions League games that take place on Wednesdays. Before that, the UEFA Champions League magazine will be broadcast between 7:20 pm and 7:35 pm . The game broadcast begins at 8:25 p.m., and coverage usually ends at 11:15 p.m. ZDF is allowed to broadcast 18 games live each season . If in the knockout round there is only one Bundesliga team in the competition, ZDF can also broadcast on Tuesday.
