The UHC Salzburg is a handball club from Salzburg .

history

The UHC Salzburg was founded in 1946 as a section of the Union Salzburg by Heinz Schirmer, who was also the association's first section head. After some successes in the field handball championship , the UHC Salzburg also took part in indoor handball and twice secured the state championship, which was held in tournament form. In 1970, the club was also a founding member of the newly introduced national handball league, which he completed with the championship title in 1972 after two runner-up titles.

In 1974 the former section became an independent association and, at the request of the sponsor, was called "HC Teiml & Spitzy Bau AG". Dr. Ernst Dioszeghy was elected the first chairman of the new association. After the club had to relegate to the State League B in 1978 , the "Hypo Bank UHC / SAK players' association" was founded in 1980. This should only last two years, because in 1982 the association had to be dissolved. From the club only the youth team remained, which was reintegrated as a section in the Union city club.

It was not until 1989 that new sponsors were won with the Salzburger Landes-Hypothekenbank and Casinos Austria AG that the UHC Salzburg experienced a new boom. After three Salzburg state championship titles were won from 1990 to 1992, they qualified for the State League B in 1992. However, the Salzburgers benefited from the dissolution of HSV Vienna . In 1993 Lattella GmbH joined as the new main sponsor and the club achieved an unexpected success with fourth place in the State League B. Only a year later, the club was without a sponsor, which slipped into dire financial problems and participation in the State League B was no longer possible. Thanks to the good youth work, the UHC Salzburg achieved promotion to the second highest division, which was now called the Second Bundesliga, by winning the Salzburg state championship title.

In the 1999/2000 season the handball section got into great financial difficulties, as a result of which in 2001 they were relegated from the Second Bundesliga. It was only in 2002 that these problems could be overcome and the handball section made debt free. Since then, the UHC Salzburg has participated in the Upper Austrian handball regional league and in the Salzburg handball regional league, which it clearly dominates. Third place was achieved in the Regionalliga West in the 2008/2009 season and the West League victory was missed by 2 goals in the 2009/2010 season, in direct comparison with SK Pastl Traun.
