The special procedures (Engl. Special Procedures ) are a mechanism of the UN Human Rights Council . To this end, individuals or groups to Special Rapporteurs (cf.. List of UN special rapporteurs ), working groups (s: working groups ) or independent expert (s: independent experts ) appointed. Depending on the mandate, a distinction is made between geographic (country-specific) and thematic special procedures. The working methods of the special rapporteurs also include field missions and public reports on the human rights situation in the individual states or regions.

Special Rapporteur on Countries

In August 2018 there were special rapporteurs on 8 countries:

• Eritrea , since 2012
• Iran , since 2011
• Israeli Occupied Territories , since 1993
• Cambodia , since 1993
• Myanmar , since 1992
• North Korea , since 2004
• Syria , since 2011
• Belarus , since 2012

There are independent experts for the following four countries:

• Mali , since 2013
• Somalia , since 1993
• Sudan , since 1993
• Central African Republic , since 2013

Since 2012 there have been independent experts on the following countries:

• Ivory Coast , 2011-2017
• Haiti , 1995-2017
