UNIS Vienna

UNIS Vienna (United Nations Information Service Vienna), also fully referred to as the Information Service of the United Nations Vienna , is part of a global network of 63 United Nations information centers from Accra to Yaoundé , which are part of the Press and Information Department (DPI). Their common goal is to convey the activities and concerns of the organization to the public and thus to provide assistance in fulfilling the essential tasks of the United Nations.

Guided tours and lectures

UNIS Vienna operates the visitor service in the International Center Vienna (VIC) , where one of the four headquarters of the United Nations - together with New York , Geneva and Nairobi - is located. The visitor service organizes lectures by UN staff about the United Nations (general overview) and about the work of the organizations based in Vienna.

Media accreditation

Every year UNIS Vienna issues accreditations for media representatives who report on topics of the UN system. Journalists who are accredited by the UN receive access to the International Center Vienna (VIC), current information on the UN in Vienna and beyond, as well as invitations to events and press conferences in the VIC and much more.

Link to civil society

Over 1,500 civil society organizations with extensive information programs are associated with the UN Press and Information Department and connect the UN with people around the world. The NGO liaison service maintains a distribution list of 400 local representatives from non-governmental organizations, research institutions, political think tanks and civil society initiatives.

Publications and information products

UNIS Vienna publishes a variety of information products on the United Nations and current international topics, including German, Slovak , Slovenian and Hungarian language versions of press releases, background information and statements by the UN Secretary-General as well as information on the work of the organizations in Vienna in English and other languages.

Library / source identification assistance

The UNIS library has a large collection of information from across the United Nations system. Reference documents, Security Council resolutions , the latest sales catalogs, current UN reports and much more are available in the library, including UN posters and fact sheets on a variety of topics. The reference library of the United Nations Information Service in Vienna is accessible to visitors, journalists, students (by prior arrangement) and all UN employees. A large number of reference materials are available on all aspects of the UN system, in particular on topics from the Vienna-based offices for drug control, crime prevention and space issues. There is also the option of taking a large number of free information materials such as fact sheets, reports and posters with you. The library also offers free, limited edition sales catalogs. The UNIS library can also help in finding UN documents.
