The USS Shaw (DD-373) was a Mahan-class destroyer of the United States Navy during World War II . She was the second ship to be named after Captain John Shaw.

history

The keel-laying of the USS Shaw began on October 1, 1934 at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard ( Philadelphia ). She had her maiden voyage on October 28, 1935 and on September 18, 1936, she became Lt. Cmdr. Reported to EA Mitchell. At the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor , she was in floating dock YFD-2, where she was badly hit and severely damaged by three bombs on the forward automatic cannon and the bridge when her forward magazine exploded in a fire. It was repaired a few months after the attack and then served in the Pacific Fleet until the end of World War II .
