Alexander Pollak (born July 16, 1973 in Vienna ) is spokesman for the Austrian human rights organization SOS Mitmensch , radio maker and author. He spent five years as head of anti-discrimination projects in the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).

Life

Pollak graduated from elementary school and grammar school in Vienna and graduated in 1991. At the beginning of 1998, he completed his studies in commercial science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . He then studied applied linguistics at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 2003 .

During his doctoral studies, Pollak worked on the Wittgenstein research focus “Discourse, Politics, Identity” headed by the Austrian linguist Ruth Wodak . He researched the image of the Wehrmacht in Austrian newspapers and documentaries. For this purpose he published the book Die Wehrmachtslegende in Österreich, published by Böhlau Verlag . In 2003, Pollak started his own business as head of scientific projects. In the same year he started working as a radio maker for the free Viennese radio station Orange 94.0 . He designed articles for the political magazine Radio Voice . Pollak received the " Adult Education Radio Prize " awarded by the adult education centers in Austria for his radio contributions in 2005, 2007 and 2013 .

In 2005 Pollak joined the European Monitoring Center for Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC), which in 2008 became the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). Pollak acted as a project manager for anti-discrimination projects. At the beginning of 2011 Pollak took over the position as spokesman and co-manager of the Austrian human rights organization SOS Mitmensch . According to media reports, Pollak played a key role in ensuring that the Wiener Korporationsring has been banned from organizing the corporation ball in the Vienna Hofburg since 2012 .

At the beginning of 2013 Pollak published the book Gut gegen Mölzer with Edition a . The book is based on a dispute between Pollak and the EU mandate and FPÖ ideologist Andreas Mölzer . Pollak used the discussion to reflect on the lines of conflict with the FPÖ, which he would repeatedly confront in his work for SOS Mitmensch . Shortly before the Austrian National Council election in 2013 , Pollak was instrumental in holding an “election” for people without Austrian citizenship, the so-called passport does not matter .
