USS Skylark

The USS Skylark (ASR-20) was a United States Navy submarine rescue ship .

The Skylark was laid down in 1945, at which time the ship was to be called USS Yustaga (ATF-165) and become a tug , but in October 1945 the name and type were changed. Immediately after being launched in March 1946, the Skylark was assigned to the reserve fleet. It was not until March 1951 that the ship was assigned to the active fleet and drove missions on the entire US east coast and in the Caribbean . From 1962, the ship also moved to European waters, including the Mediterranean and Holy Loch , Scotland .

In April 1963, the Skylark went with the submarine USS Thresher (SSN-593) on its test drives , in which the Thresher was lost. The Skylark served in the US fleet until 1973 and was then sold to Brazil , where it was active as Gastão Moutinho until 1988.
