Udo Mechels

Udo Mechels (born May 10, 1976 in Brussels ), also known only as Udo , is a Flemish singer. He is the winner of X-Factor 2005 (Belgium).

Career

In 2003 Udo took part in the first edition of Idol, but lost in the semifinals to Chris D. Morton and Tom Olaerts , who reached the final. In 2005 he tried his hand at X-Factor. That was his breakthrough. He won the program convincingly in December 2005. Since then he has released his first CD “U-Turn” and achieved his first major success with “Isn't it time”.

During the program “Tien om te Zien” (July 4th 2007) he received his first gold record . (Over 20,000 copies of U-Turn sold). This was followed by the singles “Winter in July”, “Back Against the Wall” and “Eyes of a Stranger”. In 2006 he also received a TMF Award for “Best Newbie” and the Radio 2 trophy for “Breakthrough of the Year”.

The first “Udo Live!” took place on March 28, 2007 in the 'Zuiderkroon' hall in Antwerp. The group consists of David Demeyere (drums), Chris Van Nauw (guitar), Jan Samyn (piano), Roberto Mercurio (bass guitar), Marva Nielsen and Dany Caen (accompanists). On March 30, 2007 Udo won the singing program “Zo Is er Maar Een”. He won with “Ik mis je zo”, a new recording of Will Tura's hit. After the release, Udo received his second gold record for “Ik mis je zo”.
