Udo Vieth (born December 27, 1952 in Cologne ) is a German radio presenter, author and documentary filmmaker.

Life

Vieth studied at the Cologne Werkschulen with Daniel Spoerri , Eduardo Paolozzi and Marianne Kohlscheen-Richter. During his studies he was involved in several exhibitions and campaigns. For example "Art - Museum of Money" in the Düsseldorf Kunsthalle and " Le Musée sentimental de Cologne " in the Kölner Kunstverein. Furthermore, Vieth created one of the "art tables" for the Spoerri campaign "Hommage à Karl Marx"

After studying art, she went on to study in Jamaica. With Roshan Dhunjibhoy, he learned the basics of television journalism and documentary filming at the University of the West Indies in Kingston.

He then published the book " Reggae - Musicians, Rastas and Jamaica " in 1981 with Michael Zimmermann by Fischer Verlag.

Since the mid-1980s, the focus of his work has been on documentaries and radio presentations. He works regularly for arte, ZDF, WDR and Deutschlandfunk.

In preparation are a film documentary about the pop art of the sixties in NRW (for the WDR, the realization is due to Corona postponed to 2021) and the photo projects "terra incognita" and "The Geometry of the Anthropocene".

Udo Vieth is married to the artist Reni Scholz. He has a son and lives in Cologne.

Radio broadcasts (selection)

After an internship at WDR 2 - Morgenmagazin, Udo Vieth worked as a freelance music editor for SWF 3 in Baden-Baden. His broadcasts included the SWF 3 - Popshop and the Radio Club. From 1986 he worked mainly in the WDR. At WDR 1 he moderated the shows Popsession and bands on stage. At WDR 2 Roxy or the WDR 2 music club. In 2010, together with Detlev Steinmetz, he took over the program Classics from Roger Handt.

On Deutschlandfunk, Rock et Cetera and Rocknacht are among his programs.
