The clock tower on Bab al-Faraj is a clock tower in the Syrian city ​​of Aleppo . It is located near the historic city entrance, the Bab al-Faraj, in the direct vicinity of the Aleppo National Library.

history

Köse Mehmed Raif Pascha, the Ottoman governor (vâli) des Vilâyets Aleppo , commissioned the French architect Aleppos, Charles Chartier and the engineer Bakr Sidqi to build the clock tower. The clock tower was built in the orientalizing style in 1898 and 1899 and became a symbol of the city. The balcony surrounding the four facades is decorated with muqarnas .

The cost of building the clock tower was 1,500 Ottoman Liras , half of which came from donations and the other half was provided by the Aleppo City Council.
