Ukrainian Constituent Assembly 1918
The election to the Ukrainian Constituent Assembly in 1918 ( Ukrainian Вибори до Українських Установчих Зборів ) was not fully carried out as a result of the events of the Russian October Revolution of 1918 and the subsequent Ukrainian-Soviet War .
A total of 301 seats were available for the Ukrainian Constituent Assembly, with the election on December 27, 1917 jul. / January 9, 1918 greg. has started and the constituent assembly on January 9th jul. / January 22, 1918 greg. should meet. The 301 MPs should have been elected in a general, direct, equal and secret ballot based on proportional representation, with 100,000 votes for one MP. Male and female citizens aged 20 and over were eligible to vote .
The election was suspended because of the Red Army invasion and the chaos it caused. In the territories not occupied by the Bolsheviks , 171 of the proposed 301 deputies were elected. Over 70% of the total vote went to political parties in Ukraine, only around 10% to the Bolsheviks. As a result of the political unrest, the Ukrainian Constituent Assembly never met; their areas of responsibility have been assumed by the Zentralna Rada , the central assembly of Ukraine. The Central Na Rada announced that it would act as the legislative body until the constituent session of the constituent assembly.
