Ulf Fleischer (born April 9, 1959 in Qullissat ) is a Greenlandic musician and composer .

Life

Ulf Fleischer was born in Qullissat as the son of the carpenter Hans Fleischer from Qaarsut and his wife, the cook Sofie from Saattut . When he was around ten years old, he found a broken guitar and had his father repair it. In 1970 he went to school in Denmark for a year and, because his parents moved to Nuuk in the meantime , he never returned to his hometown. The impressions that Nuuk made on him inspired him to write poetry at the age of 12. At the age of 17 he began an apprenticeship as a car mechanic, which he broke off after around two years. He then worked as a helper in shops and offices. A little later he was discovered as a musician and paid for his performances. Soon he was performing at concerts in Greenland, Denmark, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Canada. In 1992 he moved to Ilulissat , but returned to Nuuk a year later. In 1997 he was awarded by the Danish music society Koda. In 1999 he initiated the music festival Nanoq Festivalen . Together with his band, the Paarisa Band , he had released three albums by 1999. He also composes and writes for others and works as a guest musician with them. His greatest hits are the songs Neriuut , Paarisa , Takorluulertuarpagit and Issiaannarusunngilanga .
