Uma Aaltonen

Ulla-Maija "Uma" Aaltonen (born August 28, 1940 in Vihti ; † July 13, 2009 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish author, journalist and politician for the Green Bund .

Aaltonen fell ill with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1993 and was subsequently committed to improving the quality of life and equal opportunities in the treatment and care of MS sufferers both in Finland and internationally (in the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation and the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform ). In 2003 and 2004 she was a short-term as a member of the Group of the Greens deputies in the European Parliament after for Heidi Hautala who succeeded. She used her time in the European Parliament to compile an official EU report ( Aaltonen Report ) on the situation of people with MS in Europe.
