The group The Greens / European Free Alliance in the European Parliament, in short Greens / EFA or G / EFA is a group in the European Parliament . It is essentially supported by two European parties , the European Green Party (EGP) and the regionalist European Free Alliance (EFA).

After the 2019 European elections , the parliamentary group was joined by 75 members from 16 countries - making it the fourth largest group in parliament. From the German-speaking area, Germany is Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen with 21 members and one member each from the Pirate Party Germany , the Ecological Democratic Party , Volt Germany and the party Die PARTTEI , from Austria Die Grünen - Die Grüne Alternative and from Luxembourg Déi Gréng represented by one MP.

Since it was founded, the Greens / EFA group has been one of the groups with the highest group discipline , i.e. the smallest differences in voting behavior.

history

prehistory

Predecessor of the Group was the after the European elections in 1984 , founded Rainbow Group , in addition to the Greens and regionalists also left parties belonged. After the European elections in 1989 , the Green Group in the European Parliament split off.

After the European Free Alliance emerged significantly weakened from the European elections in 1994 , it united with some radical liberal parties to form the European Radical Alliance .

After the European elections in 1999 , this group disintegrated and the EFA members joined the Greens group, which changed its name to The Greens / European Free Alliance . The group has existed in this form since 1999, and to this day the European Green Party and the European Free Alliance are the main parties of the group.
