Kira Marie Peter-Hansen

Kira Marie Peter-Hansen (born February 23, 1998 in Frederiksberg ) is a Danish politician ( SF ). She won a mandate in the 2019 European elections and has been a member of the 9th European Parliament as part of the Greens-EFA group since then . She is the youngest MEP ever elected to the European Parliament.

Life

After attending an international school, Peter-Hansen began studying economics at the University of Copenhagen .

Peter-Hansen has been involved in the Socialistisk Folkeparti since 2015 . In 2018, she was asked within the party whether she would run for either the European Parliament elections or the Folketing (both in 2019). Peter-Hansen decided in favor of the European elections and ran for the SF in 3rd place, after Margrete Auken and Karsten Hønge . In the elections, the SF won 13.2 percent and thus 2 of the 14 Danish seats in the European Parliament. After Karsten Hønge renounced his mandate in order to be able to stand for the Folketing elections, Peter-Hansen accepted her mandate, which also received 15,765 preferential votes. At - on election day - 21 years, 3 months and 3 days, she is the youngest ever elected member of the European Parliament; numerous media reported about it.

According to his own statements, Peter-Hansen wants to stand up in the European Parliament in particular for climate protection and LGBT rights. For her group she is a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and a deputy member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs .
