Ciarán Cuffe
Ciarán Cuffe (born April 3, 1963 in Shankill , County Dublin ) is an Irish politician ( Green Party ) From 2002 to 2011 Cuffe was a member of the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament . From 2010 to 2011 he was Minister of State for Horticulture, Sustainable Travel, Planning and Preservation in the Cowen Cabinet . In the course of the 2019 European elections , he won the most votes in the Dublin constituency and has been a member of the ninth European Parliament since then .
Life
Cuffe was born in Shankill, a suburb of Dublin in 1963 . He attended Gonzaga College in Ranelagh, studied architecture and urban planning at University College Dublin and for a year at the University of Venice . Before being elected to Dáil Éireann, he taught urban planning at the Dublin Institute of Technology .
Cuffe joined the Green Party (then Ecology Party ) in 1982 and worked with other students to preserve Dublin's cultural heritage.
1991 to 2003 Cuffe was a member of the Dublin City Council . During this time he was one of the first to campaign for a modern tram system in Dublin . In 2002, Cuffe was elected to the Dáil Éireann; In 2007 he was re-elected.
As part of a cabinet reshuffle, Cuffe became Minister of State for Horticulture, Sustainable Travel, Planning and Monument Preservation in the Cowen Cabinet in 2010 . He resigned on January 23, 2011 when the Greens withdrew from government. In the upcoming election in February 2011, the Greens lost all their seats in parliament, including Cuffe.
2014 he was in the Dublin City Council voted (Dublin City Council). In 2019, Cuffe ran in the European elections in the Dublin constituency, which awards 4 of the 13 Irish seats. He achieved first place there with 17.5 percent of the votes cast and has been a member of the ninth European Parliament since then . He joined the Greens / EFA group with Grace O'Sullivan , who was elected for the Irish Greens in the constituency of Southern Ireland . For his group he is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Transport and Tourism . He is also a deputy member of the regional development committee .
