Daniel Freund (born October 14, 1984 in Aachen ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). Freund has been a member of the ninth European Parliament since 2019 as part of the Greens / EFA group .

Life

education

Daniel Freund, born and raised in Aachen , studied politics, economics and law at the University of Leipzig from 2004 to 2006 after completing his school education . From 2006 to 2010 he completed a master's degree in public affairs at Sciences-Po in Paris. During that time, he also completed a study visit to George Washington University in Washington DC.

During his student days, Freund and fellow colleagues founded a European newspaper project called European Daily , for which the team had been nominated for the Charlemagne Youth Prize, but which did not last beyond its founding phase.

Professional career

After working as an intern at the Foreign Office and the EU delegation in Hong Kong and as a consultant at Deloitte , Freund worked from 2013 to 2014 as an employee in the office of MEP Gerald Häfner in Brussels. In July 2014 Freund moved to the Transparency International office in Brussels, where he was responsible for the fight against corruption at EU institutions as “Head of Advocacy for EU Integrety” until May 2019.

In 2005 Daniel Freund joined the party Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen .

European Parliament

In November 2018 he ran at the party's federal delegates' conference for the European election list, the delegates nominated for 20th place on the list. His party won 21 of the 96 German mandates in the European elections with 20.5 percent of the vote, so Freund moved in straight away. As such, he is also a member of the Greens / EFA group .

For the group he is a member of the Budget Control Committee (CONT) and the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO). He is also a deputy member of the Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN). He is also a member of the working group for the Conference on the Future of Europe (2019–).
