Gina Dowding (born July 15, 1962 in London ) is a British politician ( Green Party of England and Wales ). Dowding, long active in local politics in Lancaster , was elected to the European Parliament in the 2019 European elections and was a member of the Greens / EFA group until January 31, 2020 .

Life

education

Dowding graduated from Nottingham Trent University . After graduating, she started working as a public health expert with the UK NHS . She also worked as a project manager for various non-governmental organizations.

Political commitment

Dowding has been a member of the Green Party of England and Wales since the early 1990s . At the local level it stood as a candidate in 1991 for the first time for the city council of Lancaster ( Lancaster City Council ), however, was only elected in the 1999 election, and since then re-elected in 2003 and of 2019. Parallel she ran in 1993 for the municipal council of Lancashire (Lancashire County Council), for which she was elected in 2013 and re-elected 2017th Dowding's candidacies for the House of Commons were not successful in either 1992 or 2010.

Dowding has also been a regular candidate for the European Parliament since 1999, but was not successful in the 1999 , 2004 and 2014 elections in the North West England European constituency. In 2019, her party nominated her for the 2019 European elections to the party's first list position in the British European constituency of North West England. She joined the Greens / EFA group , for which she was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs . She was also a deputy member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Transport and Tourism .

Downding lives in Lancaster, is married with two children.
