Alviina Alametsä (born September 29, 1992 ) is a Finnish politician from the Green Confederation . Alametsä has been a member of the European Parliament since 2020 as part of the group The Greens / European Free Alliance .

Life

education

Alviina Alametsä attended the Jokelan koulukeskus until 2011 . She also witnessed the school shooting in 2007 when she was in ninth grade at the school. After completing her school career, Alametsä studied political science at the University of Helsinki from 2011 to 2014 . During her studies Alametsä was also active in university politics.

After graduating from university, Alametsä worked for the Finnish government organization Crisis Management Initiative, from 2017 to 2018 she was assistant to the Finnish MP Pekka Haaviston .

Alametsä was elected to the Helsinki City Council as a candidate for the Green Bund in 2017, after having tried unsuccessfully in 2012. She also ran for her party in the 2015 and 2019 national parliamentary elections, but did not win a seat.

In the 2019 European elections , the Green Bund won three mandates, of which the third mandate, that of Alametsä, could only be used after the United Kingdom left the European Union due to a reallocation of seats. After resigning on January 31, 2020, Alametsä was able to take up her mandate on February 1, 2020. She joined the group The Greens / European Free Alliance and has since represented the group as a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs . Furthermore, they substitute member of the Committee on Development , Committee on Transport and Tourism and the Subcommittee on Security and Defense .
