politics

Christian Allard joined the Scottish National Party (SNP) around 2004 and has served as the party's political advisor since 2007. According to his own statements, his commitment to Scottish independence is based primarily on his experience in fishing.

Allard worked part-time for the Scottish MP Dennis Robertson and supported him in the 2011 election to the Scottish Parliament in the constituency of Aberdeenshire West .

A by-election was required following the death of MP Brian Adam in the Aberdeen Donside constituency . To this Mark McDonald joined the SNP, who previously held a list mandate for the electoral region of North East Scotland . In order to run for the election, he had to resign, so Allard, the next candidate on the electoral list, moved up. Allard won the election clearly with 41.98 percent of the vote. On May 15, 2013, Allard was sworn in in parliament. He took the oath in both English and French; a novelty in the Scottish Parliament.

In the regular election to the Scottish Parliament in 2016 , Allard ran as a list candidate and not as a direct candidate, but did not win a seat due to the peculiarities of the Scottish electoral system. He won a mandate in the 2017 election to Aberdeen City Council and has been a member ever since.

In 2019, his party nominated him for the 2019 European elections to the party's second place on the list in the British European constituency of Scotland. His party won three seats in the constituency with 37.8 percent of the vote, one for Allard. Like all SNP MPs, Allard joined the group The Greens / EFA , which not only includes parties of the European Green Party , but also the regionalist European Free Alliance . The latter also includes the Scottish National Party. Allard was a member of the Fisheries Committee for his group , as well as a deputy member of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection .
