Karima Delli (born March 4, 1979 in Roubaix ) is a French politician ( EELV ). Delli has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009 , she was re-elected in 2014 and 2019 and is a member of the Greens / EFA group .

Life and study

Karima Delli grew up in Tourcoing in simple circumstances. She is the daughter of Algerian immigrants, her father is a worker in the textile industry. Delli is the ninth of thirteen children in the family. After graduating from the High School for Industry and Commerce, she began studying in Lille , which she completed in 2004 with a master's diplôme d'études approfondies (DEA) in political science.

From 2004 Delli was Parliamentary Assistant to Senator Marie-Christine Blandin . At the same time, she started working on a political science doctorate.

Delli is since 2005 a member of the Green Party Les Verts , in the 2007 parliamentary elections she stood as a candidate in the Pas-de-Calais. From 2007 to 2008 she was the spokesperson for the party-affiliated youth organization Les Jeunes Verts . In addition, she conducted political activities outside of traditional organizations, such as the Collectif Jeudi Noir, an alliance against high rents and the real estate bubble .

In the European elections in 2009 , Karima Delli was elected to the European Parliament through the Europe Ecology list initiated and cited by Daniel Cohn-Bendit . She ran in the constituency of Île-de-France , where the list achieved a share of the vote of 20.9%. In Parliament, Delli belongs to the Greens / EFA group. She is a member of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee and the Delegation for Relations with India. She works as a deputy in the Committee for Regional Development .

She ran again in the European elections in 2014 and was re-elected. In the eighth legislative period (2014–2019), she was, among other things, from January 25, 2017, Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism .

In 2019, her party nominated her again for the electoral list of the 2019 European elections : She received 6th place on the joint list of Europe Écologie-Les Verts (EELV), Alliance écologiste indépendante (AEI) and Régions et peuples solidaires . The joint list won 13.43 percent, 13 of the 79 French mandates, including Delli. She rejoined the Greens / EFA group . As before, she is a member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and a deputy member of the Committee on Budgets for her group in the ninth legislative period .
