Claude Gruffat

Claude Gruffat (born September 13, 1957 in Rumilly , Haute-Savoie ) is a French grocer and politician ( Europe Écologie-Les Verts ). Since February 2020 he has been a member of the European Parliament as part of the group The Greens / European Free Alliance .

Life

Professional career

Claude Gruffat was born on September 13, 1957 in the municipality of Rumilly (Haute-Savoie), the son of a farmer. After his school education, Gruffat completed a BTS specialist diploma in management with the intention of taking over the father's dairy farm, which failed, however. He then initially worked as an agricultural consultant for various industrial associations.

From 1983 Gruffat worked for an organic shopping group in Blois , which he headed from 1992 to 1995 as managing director. In 1993 he opened his own organic grocery store at the same time. In 1997, the cooperative Gruffat Biocoop at, which specialized in the distribution of organic products. From 2004 to 2019 he headed the cooperative, in March 2019 he left his position to switch to politics.

In 2019 he took part in political activities of the French green party Europe Écologie-Les Verts .

In the same year the party nominated him as a non-party for the electoral list of the 2019 European elections . It received 13th place on the joint list of Europe Écologie-Les Verts (EELV), Alliance écologiste indépendante (AEI) and Régions et peuples solidaires . The joint list won 13.43 percent, 13 of the 79 French mandates, including Gruffat. However, the 13th mandate, that of Gruffat, could only be used after the United Kingdom left the European Union due to a reallocation of seats.

After leaving on January 31, 2020, Gruffat was able to take up his mandate on February 1, 2020. He joined the Group of the Greens / EFA , for which he is a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs . He is also a deputy member of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection and the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development .

In a contribution by Liberation, Gruffat expressed his political ambitions in the European Parliament: better food labeling and avoidance of pesticides in food production.

Private

Gruffat is married and has four children.
