Philippe Lamberts (born March 14, 1963 in Brussels ) is a Belgian politician ( Ecolo ). From 2006 to 2012 Lamberts was co-chair of the European Green Party . He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009 and was re-elected in 2014 and 2019. Since 2014 he has been one of the two chairmen of the Greens / EFA group in the European Parliament.

Life

Education and professional activity

Lamberts graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven in 1986 as an engineer . From 1987 to 2009 he worked at IBM in various positions, including as a manager. Lamberts represented the French-speaking green party Ecolo in the council of Anderlecht from 1994 to 2006 . From 1999 to 2003 he was Advisor to Vice Prime Minister Isabelle Durant on Foreign Affairs and Defense.

Philippe Lamberts was one of the two speakers for the European Green Party from 2006 to 2012 , first with Ulrike Lunacek , and later with Monica Frassoni .

For the 2009 European elections he nominated his party Ecolo to Rank 1. He won his mandate and has since become a member of the European Parliament. He was re-elected in the 2014 and 2019 European elections . Lamberts has been one of the two chairmen of the group The Greens / European Free Alliance since 2014 , first with Rebecca Harms , later with Ska Keller .

Since 2017 Lamberts has also been a member of Parliament's so-called Brexit Steering Group, which works under the auspices of the Conference of Presidents and coordinates Parliament's deliberations, deliberations and resolutions on the UK's withdrawal from the EU. In the ninth term of parliament (2019-2024), Lamberts is only a member of the Conference of Presidents and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs .
