Hannah Neumann (born April 3, 1984 in Speyer ) is a German peace and conflict researcher and politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). Since the European elections in 2019 she has been a member of the European Parliament as part of the Greens / EFA group .

Life

After studying media and political science , she did her doctorate in the field of peace and conflict research at the Free University of Berlin . In research and teaching, Neumann is particularly concerned with local peace processes in crisis regions. She participated, for example, in research projects on United Nations peace missions or on the German discourse on the Bundeswehr's missions abroad .

politics

From 2013 to 2016 Neumann worked as office manager for Tom Koenigs and Omid Nouripour in the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . There she was primarily concerned with issues of human rights policy , crisis prevention and the United Nations .

In the 2017 Bundestag election she ran as a direct candidate in the Bundestag constituency of Berlin-Lichtenberg and was elected to 7th place on the Green State List Berlin, but missed entry into the Bundestag. Neumann has been chairwoman of the Greens district association in her place of residence Berlin-Lichtenberg since 2017 .

In November 2018, she ran at the party's federal delegates' conference for the European election list, the delegates nominated her for 5th place on the list. Your party won 21 of the 96 German seats in the European elections with 20.5 percent of the vote, so Neumann moved in straight away. She joined the group Die Grünen / EFA , for the group she is a member of the subcommittee on human rights , of which she was elected vice-chair, and of the subcommittee on security and defense . She is also a deputy member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs .

Neumann regularly comments on political events in the Frankfurter Rundschau and on Twitter .
