Stasys Jakeliūnas

Stasys Jakeliūnas (born October 2, 1958 in Karaganda , Kazakhstan ) is a Lithuanian politician ( LVŽS ) and financial advisor . In the 2019 European elections he won a mandate for the LVŽS and has been a member of the ninth European Parliament as part of the Greens / EFA group since then .

Life

Youth and education

In 1966 he arrived in Lithuania as the son of a deported family. He lived and learned in Telšiai , Anykščiai and Jonava . After graduating from the Jonava Middle School in 1976 , he began studying radio electronics at the Politechnikos institutas in Kaunas . From 1980 to 1982 he served in the Soviet Army .

From 1982 to 1987 he graduated in psychology from the Vilniaus universitetas and became a psychologist and teacher of psychology. In 1989 he set up the "Nauji kontaktai" institute as a cooperative . From 1993 to 1995 he graduated from the Master of Business and Finance Management with a grant from the US government at the Michigan State University .

Professional career

From 1995 to 2005 Jakeliūnas worked for the Lithuanian insurance company AB Lietuvos draudimas , first as head of the investment department and then that of the finance department and board member. Since 2005 he has been deepening himself in economic topics and analyzes. From 2009 to 2010 he was the TV presenter of the program "Svarbus pokalbis" on Baltijos televizija . In 2010 he wrote the book Anatomy of the Lithuanian Crisis (lit. "Lietuvos krizės anatomija"). From 2012 to December 2014 he was a financial advisor to Algirdas Butkevičius . In 2015 he wrote the book " Swedbanko byla".

From 2015 to 2016 Jakeliūnas worked as a freelance financial analyst and financial advisor . In 2016 he became a Seimas member. As a candidate for Lietuvos valstiečių ir žaliųjų sąjunga , he was nominated for Minister of Finance of Lithuania in the Skvernelis cabinet in 2016 .

Jakeliūnas ran for the Lietuvos valstiečių ir žaliųjų sąjunga in the 2019 European elections. The party won 12.56 percent of the vote, two of the eleven Lithuanian mandates. Since then he has, together with Bronis rope , Member of the European Parliament . Jakeliūnas and Ropė joined the Greens / EFA group . For the parliamentary group, he is a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and a deputy member of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection .

Private

Jakeliūnas is married. His wife Daiva is a psychoanalyst and runs an individual company. His son Kostas is an IT specialist. Jakeliūnas lives in Dvariškės near Riešė in the district of Vilnius .
