Saskia Bricmont

Saskia Bricmont (born March 16, 1985 in Tournai , Belgium ) is a Belgian political scientist and politician ( Ecolo ). She won a mandate in the 2019 European elections and has been a member of the 9th European Parliament as part of the Greens / EFA group .

Life

education and profession

Saskia Bricmont grew up in the Belgian Pays des Collines near Ath . After completing school at the Athenée Royal d'Ath , Bricmont moved to Brussels in 2002 to study political science and international relations at the Université libre de Bruxelles . In 2007 she completed a degree in European Studies at the Institut d'Études Européennes .

In 2007, Bricmont began working as a consultant on issues relating to European, international and development cooperation in the Belgian Federal Parliament for MEPs from Ecolo and Groen . She later moved briefly to Evelyne Huytebroeck , Brussels Minister for the Environment and Poverty Reduction. In 2009 she took over the management of the scientific department at Ecolo.

Since 2015 she has been working on behalf of the Ideta agency for spatial development in Picardy Wallonia (Tournai region), in particular as a contact point for the Eurometropolis, a cross-border region with Lille and Kortrijk.

Political commitment

In addition to her professional activity for Ecolo, Bricmont has been committed to the Francophone Green Party since 2007. In 2012 she was elected to the city council of her hometown Ath.

In 2019, Bricmont ran for Ecolo in the European elections as second behind Philippe Lamberts . Ecolo won 19.91 percent in Wallonia and 16.37 percent in the German-speaking community and thus 2 of the 21 Belgian mandates - Bricmont thus moved into the ninth European Parliament . She stepped there, as her party colleague Lambert, the group The Greens / EFA was. For her political group she is a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and a deputy member of the Committee on International Trade .

Private

Saskia Bricmont has two children.
