Salima Yenbou (born March 14, 1971 in Aubervilliers ) is a French teacher and politician (formerly PS , now AEI ). In the course of the 2019 European elections , she won a mandate and has since been a member of the ninth European Parliament as part of the Greens / EFA group .

Life

Youth and education

Salima Yenbou was born on March 14, 1971 in the Paris suburb of Aubervilliers as the daughter of a worker and a housewife of both Algerian origins. She grew up in the notorious Cité des 3000 district of the municipality of Aulnay-sous-Bois .

After her school education and her studies, she first worked as a teacher and later as a headmistress. Until recently she was the deputy headmaster of a vocational high school in Combs-la-Ville .

Political commitment

Salima Yenbou has been involved in the Parti Socialiste since 2014 . In the meantime she was councilor for Dammarie-les-Lys . In 2016 she left the Parti Socialiste and joined the Alliance écologiste indépendante (AEI). She ran for the AEI in the parliamentary elections in 2017 in the constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis, but lost heavily to Clémentine Autain from La France Insoumise .

In 2019 the AEI nominated her for the electoral list of the 2019 European elections . It received 10th place on the joint list of Europe Écologie-Les Verts (EELV), Alliance écologiste indépendante (AEI) and Régions et peuples solidaires (RPS). During the election campaign, Yenbou campaigned primarily for a more social climate policy, and she also called for a change in the common agricultural policy so that more support would be given to smallholders and organic farming. She also campaigned for more direct democratic elements within the EU.

The joint list of EELV, AIE and RPS won 13.43 percent and thus 13 of the 79 French mandates, including Semina Yenbiu. Since then she has been a member of the ninth European Parliament and joined the group of the Greens / EFA together with the elected members of the EELV . Besides Caroline Roose, she is the only member of the AEI. She is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Culture and Education for her group . She is also a deputy member of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee .

Private

Salima Yenbou has three children.
