Ulrich Foerstner

Ulrich Förstner (born February 26, 1940 in Albstadt-Ebingen ) is a German scientist, professor emeritus and author in the field of environmental protection technology .

Career

After studying and obtaining a doctorate in geology and mineralogy at the University of Tübingen , he worked from 1967 as a research assistant, lecturer and later adjunct professor at the Faculty of Geosciences at Heidelberg University at the German Müller Institute for Sediment Research . From 1982 he headed the newly established environmental engineering department (now the Institute for Environmental Engineering and Energy Economics) at TU Hamburg-Harburg as a professor . His research area includes various key topics in the field of water and soil protection. He was involved in over fifty research projects on this topic and has published his research in numerous articles and over 16 books. His monograph environmental technology is considered a classic both as a textbook and as a reference work. For his pioneering work in the field of water protection, he was awarded the Vollenweider Lectureship Prize of the Canadian National Water Research Institute.

He retired in 2005, but has been active as a specialist book author, reviewer and editor ever since. He is a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) and the Saxon Academy of Sciences . In 2016 Ulrich Förstner was awarded the Georg Agricola Medal by the German Mineralogical Society .

Ulrich Förstner is married and has five children.
