Ulrich Mania

Ulrich Mania (* before 1970) is a German classical archaeologist .

Mania graduated from high school in Jena in 1988. After an apprenticeship as a stonemason and work as a stone restorer, he completed an undergraduate degree at the Halle Art College . After community service and short-term work as a restorer, he began studying classical archeology at the University of Halle in 1995 . In 2001 he completed his master's thesis on the subject of the fixtures in the sanctuary of the Egyptian gods Pergamon (Kizil Avlu) . In 2005 the doctorate followed with a thesis on the figurative decoration of the Red Hall in Pergamon . From 2008 to 2010 Mania was assistant at the chair for Classical Archeology at the University of Kiel with Frank Rumscheid . From October 2010 to 2013 Mania was Academic Councilor at the Institute for Classical Archeology at the University of Bonn . Since July 2013 he has been researching the development of Hellenistic grammar schools as an academic visitor at Oxford University .

From 2001 to 2008, Mania was involved in excavations and restoration work by the German Archaeological Institute in Pergamon and the surrounding area, initially in the Red Hall under the direction of Adolf Hoffmann , then in the area survey in Elaia and in the excavations in the eastern necropolis of Pergamon. From 2009 to 2013 he carried out a project to research the high schools in Priene .
