Ulrich Paetzel
Ulrich "Uli" Paetzel (born November 15, 1971 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2004 to 2016 he was mayor of the city of Herten .
Life
After graduating from high school in 1991 at the Städtisches Gymnasium Herten , Paetzel studied French and social sciences at the Ruhr University Bochum and the Université François Rabelais in Tours . He worked as a research assistant , did his doctorate in 2001 in Bochum in social sciences and became a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences. From 1999 to 2005 he taught in the areas of human resource management on behalf of the Bochum University of Applied Sciences at the Institute for Future-Oriented Competence Development (IZK) and from 1999 to 2004 at the Gelsenkirchen Institute for Administrative Science. From 2001 to 2004 Paetzel was head of the marketing department at the Herten software company PROSOZ.
Uli Paetzel has been a member of the SPD since 1991. In 1999 he became a member of the Herten city council. In the local elections in 2004, he was elected Mayor Hertens on October 1, 2004 (51.07%). In the 2009 local elections, Paetzel was confirmed in office with 68.5 percent of the vote. Uli Paetzel was able to prevail again in the 2014 local elections and was elected for a third term with 64.7 percent of the vote. On February 1, 2016, Paetzel took over as chairman of the board of directors of the Emschergenossenschaft water management association and resigned from his position as mayor of Herten.
In December 2018, the Ruhr University Bochum awarded him the title of honorary professor .
