Ulrich Steier

Ulrich Steier (* 1964 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) is a German concert guitarist, musician, composer and author.

Life

Ulrich Steier is the son of the engineer and pianist Edgar Steier and his wife Erika Steier geb. Young. He studied at the Folkwang University of Applied Sciences in Essen and passed his final artistic examination in 1994. He then studied at the Enschede Conservatory, where he passed the concert exam in 1996. He then received a two-year scholarship that enabled him to study at several European conservatories, for example in Breslau, Ghent, Weimar and Münster.

In addition to his training as a concert guitarist, he had saxophone lessons from 1980 to 1984, attended several drum workshops from 1980 to 1993, received private singing lessons from 1982 to 1988 and studied double bass with Michinori Bunya at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen from 1987 to 1991.

Ulrich Steier has been a lecturer in concert guitar at the ArtEZ Conservatorium Enschede and Zwolle in the Netherlands since 2001 . He leads master classes in the Netherlands, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Sri Lanka and every year in Easter week the Nauders guitar seminar in Austria. From 2006 to 2013 Steier performed with the Italian guitarist Massimo Laura as the Aranjuez Guitar Duo . In 2013 he founded the Steier Music Production label with his wife Anastasia . In 2015 he founded the trio Charming Blossom with the soprano Anouk Snellink and the guitarist Pim Weierink .

Steier gave concerts in Europe and Asia. As a soloist he has appeared with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, among others. Ulrich Steier composed a program for guitar, vocals and orchestra as a crossover of classical music, pop and rock, in which his own and old Dowland texts are underlaid with a mix of symphonic string sounds and rock riffs. The program premiered in November 2003 with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka in Colombo. He plays the Opera 4 Three program with his ensemble Charming Blossom . The two guitar parts take over the entire orchestral part. In addition to arrangements of well-known works by Bellini, Delibes, Fauré and Puccini, arrangements of Steier's orchestral works are also represented.

Children's music

Ulrich Steier composes for children and has released several albums since 2004. Some of his works have been published by Argon Verlag since 2014 . He wrote the music for the audio book Why the cat and the mouse became friends anyway ; In 2015 a CD with lullabies was released.

With its concert-show concept instrument tour with Ulrich Steier , Steier is also addressing the young concert audience. In a children's concert, he introduces star guests with their instruments. His first guests were the violinist Michael Rein and the saxophonist Iris Gruber.
