biography

Pump house in Kernen in the Remstal with painting by Ulrich Zeh

Ulrich Zeh completed his studies at the art academies in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart (painting with Rudolf Haegele , art history with Hans Fegers, Wolfgang Kermer and Werner Sumowski) in 1971 with the state examination and taught as an art teacher in the following years (until 2012) at the Ernst-Sigle- Grammar school in Kornwestheim.

As a painter, he made a name for himself as early as 1970 with his sports pictures by not portraying sport as the most beautiful minor matter in the world, but making competitive sport the central topic of his work in a socially critical way ( adrenaline bombs before the explosion , Christiane Binder, 1990). The starting point was his own experiences as a track and field athlete (1964: Participation in the Olympics World Youth Camp in Tokyo ).

The second dominant theme of his work is the representation of landscape, not as a reproduction of a perceived reality, but as a dialogue-oriented composition of typical landscape forms: colored landscapes and events.

In 1968 he met the painter Günther C. Kirchberger and became friends with him. Kirchberger also introduced him to the screen printer and gallery owner Roland Geiger , with whom he then regularly presented his latest work in solo exhibitions. In the gallery Geiger opened Reinhard Döhl and Stephan Geiger exhibitions of Zeh'schen images.
