Ulrike Kaufmann

Ulrike Kaufmann (born September 13, 1953 in Gai , Styria , † December 19, 2014 ) was an Austrian set and graphic artist , costume designer, actress and, together with Erwin Piplits, head of the Vienna Serapions Ensemble .

Life

Ulrike Kaufmann lived and worked in Vienna. She attended the Ortwein School (1967–1971), the technical school class for commercial graphics and photo technology. 1972–1975 she attended the stage design class with Louis Egg at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

In 1973 she founded the theater group “Pupodrom” in Vienna together with Erwin Piplits. The name refers to the oval play area as well as to art figures that have references to the fine arts (model in the triadic ballet by Oskar Schlemmer). "The masks" that appear in the game stand for the longings and dreams of humans.

The work of the theater group, which from the beginning cultivated the free interpretation of given themes, finally culminated in 1980 in the creation of the Serapionstheater, which was given a venue on Wallensteinplatz in Vienna and has performed in the Odeon on Taborstrasse since 1988 .

On December 19, 2014, Ulrike Kaufmann died of severe illness at the age of 61.
