Erwin Piplits (born July 19, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian theater maker, set designer and actor .

Live and act

Erwin Piplits first learned textile printing. In 1962 he began working for the "Komödianten am Börseplatz" as a set designer and actor. Parallel to studying at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, he worked at Arena 70 and, from 1971, at the Museum of the 20th Century . The intensive work with fictional characters led to the experimental musical theater performance Pupofon in 1971 , which later became the Pupodrom . In 1973 she started working with Ulrike Kaufmann , which only ended when she died in 2014. Erwin Piplits has worked continuously with the Serapions Ensemble since 1980 (at the Odeon since 1988; also headed by Kaufmann until 2014). a. on behalf of the Salzburg Festival (for example in 1993 Così fan tutte ), the Vienna State Opera and the Zurich Opera .

At the Gutenstein Festival in 2015 he directed Ferdinand Raimund's Der Barometermacher auf der Zauberinsel .
