An ultrasound device , also known as an ultrasound system, is a device with which an ultrasound examination ( sonography ) is carried out in medicine or an ultrasound examination in industry .

The medical device consists of one or more exchangeable ultrasound probes that are connected to a signal processing unit. Further data processing components enable the real-time display of the calculated images on a monitor, the manipulation of processing parameters using rotary and slide controls, the saving of images and sequences on hard drives or removable media , the acquisition of patient and examiner data via a keyboard and the output of images a printer and / or a Picture Archiving and Communication System .
