Umar Abd ar-Razzaq

Umar Abd ar-Razzaq ( Arabic عمر عبد الرزاق, DMG ʿUmar ʿAbd ar-Razzāq ; also: Omar Abd al-Razaq , Abed Rayek ; * 1958 in Salfit ) is a Palestinian economist and politician ( Hamas ). In 2006 he was briefly Minister of Finance for the Palestinian Authority .

Life

Umar Abd ar-Razzaq comes from a farming family. He attended high school in Salfit and received his PhD from the University of Iowa in the United States in 1986 . He then worked as a professor of economics at the University of Nablus before he was appointed Minister of Finance of the Palestinian Authority on March 29, 2006. On June 29, 2006, Umar Abd ar-Razzaq was arrested by Israel along with 63 other Hamas members as part of " Operation Summer Rain " and released in 2008.
