Umar Patek (* 1967 or 1970 in Bali as Hisyam Bin Alizein ) is an Indonesian terrorist of Arab origin. He is a member of Jemaah Islamiyah and was convicted in 2012 of aiding and abetting the Christmas 2000 bombings and the 2002 Bali attack .

Patek was wanted by Indonesia, the United States, and Australia. A $ 1 million reward was offered on clues leading to Patek's arrest.

On January 25, 2011, he was in Abbottabad in Pakistan arrested where later Al-Qaeda boss Osama bin Laden found and killed. On August 11th, the Pakistani authorities extradited him to Indonesia.

On June 21, 2012, a court sentenced him to 20 years in prison for complicity in the attacks. The court was convinced that Patek had assembled the bombs for the attacks. He said he didn't know what kind of missions they were intended for. Because the accused had shown remorse during the trial, the death penalty was waived.
