Umboi (German outdated: Ruk Island or English Rook Island ) is a volcanic island in the Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea . It lies between the mainland of New Guinea and the island of New Britain and belongs to the Tewai-Siassi district . In the 1850s, the first Christian missionary attempts in what is now Papua New Guinea took place on the island .

The island is separated from New Britain by the Dampier Strait . The highest point is 1,548 meters. Umboi is the largest of the Siassi Islands .
There are no known eruptions from the volcano Mount Talo .
